This is the update on the blog I wrote about liberal bias in college. Should be two posts down from this one.

This is the exchange that started it all:

Q: Since the inception of the Iraqi war, I'd like to know the approximate total of Iraqis who have been killed. And by Iraqis I include civilians, military, police, insurgents, translators.

THE PRESIDENT: How many Iraqi citizens have died in this war? I would say 30,000, more or less, have died as a result of the initial incursion and the ongoing violence against Iraqis. We've lost about 2,140 of our own troops in Iraq.

Every media outlet, including my professor, is concluding Bush said "30,000 civilians dead in war." Much different impression then the exchang shown above.

Come on, now. Let's stop SKEWING everything for political gain.

Throughout High School, I was more politically aware than the average teenager. After September 11th hit close to home, I awoke to what was going on around me. I had always grown up in a conservative household, and prior to September 11th I didn't really give a rats ass about politics, as most 14 year olds don't. However that all changed after September 11th. I began to look at everything. I looked at what my parents said, I looked at what the other side said, and eventually I came to my own conclusion: conservatism (ooh!! The bad C word). I considered the liberal perspective heavily, andddddd.......was unimpressed.

Around junior year of H.S., the college debate came into play. I was looking at a myriad of places, and getting together my thoughts on them. Senior year came along and I was getting my mediocre grades together to form my transcript.

I had always heard of the liberal bias in colleges, but I never really appreciated it until I experienced it myself. Fast forward til today:

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005; Stony Brook University, Long Island, NY.

I'm in my last class of the semester; Sexuality in Literature. The class size, to my knowledge, exceeds 300, and it is held in a very large lecture hall.
Throughought the course of the semester, I knew my professor was a liberal. I had heard of his views before, but never in the class. Throughout the semester, this professor had never once expressed, or pushed his political views upon us, and I deeply appreciated and respected that.

However that all changed on this day.

Okay, so I'm in my last lecture with this man, and everything is going quite swimmingly until he decided to begin dissecting every euphamism used by the Bush administration, such as "enemy combatant, shock and awe, precision strike," so on and so forth. He complained about how these Islamo Fascists are treated while in detention, going on to talk about how they are held in "unpleasant positions." Ooh, God (oops did I say that) forbid. I wouldnt suppose the people who were forced to jump of the Trade Towers were in an "unpleasant position," were they?

So, of course, he got to the recent news of Bush stating 30,000 Iraqis have died in Iraq. Notably, he mentioned, and likened the figure to be that of a count of civilian deaths. Angered by this, I raised my hand to rebuke. However, I was told to wait until he was finished with the rest of his points, and that I should "write down" my question. Why? So I can hand it in to you on the last day of lecture?

Immediately after he was finished, I stood up in front of the class and informed the 300 plus people that the figure was being skewed by the media, and why. Ill get into that later..

After my remarks, the professor went on to say I had a "valid point."

Oh why thank you for making that generous admission, professor, it's a shame a boy 30 years your junior had to make up for your lack of maturity.

I've finally experienced the liberal bias I was always told collge would entail.

According to your spokesman, you want our "brave" soldiers to be "protected."

Yet at the same time, your party chairman believes the war can't be won, and slowly, your party as a whole is beginning to think that Iraq was better off under Saddam. Upon repetition, you and yours still fail to understand that we do have a plan for Iraq. According to people in YOUR party, our soldiers are "broken," and "worn," despite the fact enlistment rates are UP. Your party associates itself with the likes of Cindy Sheehan, who labeled a war a "blatant genocide," but at the same time speaks of the memory of her fallen son who fought and died in Iraq. Your party is the party that said the Iraqi's would never have elections. THEY DID. This man, or hero, who helped deliver ballots to election stations, had more faith in Iraqi elections than your party did. He DIED for his mission. Mr. Kerry, it was YOUR party that cast aspersions and doubt every step of the way. YOUR party said elections wouldn't happen, and that security forces and police forces would never be established, even though men are being KILLED while waiting to SIGN UP. An AP story was run yesterday on a bombing near an Iraqi hospital. It was mentioned that before the blast, American soldiers were handing out candy and food to Iraqi children.

As I sit here in my boring Geology class, here at Stony Brook, I just read a story online about how oil production facilities are being re-opened on the Gulf Coast.

Anywho; it got me thinking:

Why do we all complain about gas, when we're the problem?

Stop driving 75 on the highways, slow down!
Drive 55. I drive 55 on the Long Island Expressway, and other drivers look at my like I have three heads.

At 55, your car gets optimal gas mileage. I drive a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and when I cruise at 55mph, I can pull 23-24 miles to the gallon. Not bad at all.

Stoplights:
Dont slam on the brakes at the last second when you see it from hundreds of feet away. Deccelerate slowly, it saves gas, and when you go on the green, dont accelerate as hard.

If everyone drove smart, stopped pulling the one-person-in-a-ford-excursion moves, and if people stopped coming out to the East End of Long Island in stretch Escalades to vineyard hop like morons,

We'd all have a better time with gas.
